Malaysian Skills Certificate (MSC)
Malaysian Skills Certificate is Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia in English.
It is a nationally & internationally recognized certificate issued by the Government@Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) to individuals who have shown capabilities that are required and been equipped with specific competencies to perform tasks and functions for gainful employment in selected fields.
Malaysian Skills Certificate - Five (5) levels of certification:
- Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 1
- Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 2
- Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3
- Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM)
- Malaysian Advanced Skills Diploma (DLKM)
Duration
Average duration (still subject to individual NOSS/program):
SKM Level 1: 6 months
SKM Level 2: 6 months
SKM Level 3: 12 months
DKM Level 4: 12 months + 3 months On Job Training
DLKM Level 5: 18 months
Malaysian Skills Certificate can be obtained through three (3) methods
1. Via a JPK Accredited Training centre
Through training programmes at JPK accredited centres for specific fields and skill levels that have been accredited.
2. Via Recognition of Prior Achievements (PPT)
Obtaining the Malaysian Skills Certification through past experience (work or training). You are required to submit proof of your skills competency which will be assessed by the Assesor (PP-PPT) and approved by the External Verification Officer appointed by Department of Skills Development (SDS).
3. Via National Dual Training System (NDTS)
Through apprenticeship with the National Dual Training System (SLDN) conducted by industries and skills training institutes.

The minimum requirements for candidates to join a JPK Accredited training centre for Malaysian Skills Certificate are:
Ability to speak and write in either Bahasa Melayu or English.
Able to read, write & do basic calculation (no PT3 or SPM requirement)*
Must have passed a lower SKM level before signing up for a higher SKM level in the same field.

2. Continue your SKM3 to Executive Bachelor, quite similar to a Bachelor’s Degree but with variations.
3. Further your DKM to technical/non-technical Bachelor or Master degree
4. Meanwhile, here is the Starting Pay Guide for SKM graduates according to your level. However, there is no enforcement, many are paid below the guideline.
